Описание
The History of the Occult unfolds in Buenos Aires in 1987, during the final episode of the popular TV talk show 60 Minutes Before Midnight.
The film blends the atmosphere of a noir detective story with cosmic horror, following journalists investigating a government conspiracy.
This is one of those films that splits audiences in half. Some say it’s «the biggest piece of shit they’ve ever seen,» while others enthusiastically claim: «This is how you make films! A masterpiece on a shoestring budget.» I’m firmly in the second camp — I think this film is phenomenal. Almost a perfect horror film.
It’s a very atmospheric and stylish arthouse horror. You might not understand what’s even happening on the first watch. But this isn’t the type of arthouse horror where the main gimmick is just visual aesthetics (although, undoubtedly, a lot of attention was paid to that here), where you’re supposed to enjoy the imagery and mind-crushing sound design while ignoring the near-total lack of plot. In this film, the main gimmick is the plot’s deliberate complexity.
